Managing Emotions: A User’s Guide to the Nervous System
Mindfulness and body-based approaches to caring for your emotional self. Techniques and theory from Polyvagal Theory and Integrative Somatic Psychology
Who this class is for:
Anyone who wants to feel more in control of their intense emotions
Anyone who wants to be able to weather ups and downs more easily
Anyone who has a specific repeating pattern of emotion (tears, anger, anxiety, sadness, shutdown)
Anyone who wants to know what it means to have “healthy” expression of emotion
Anyone who only knows 2 ways to deal with emotion: bottling or blowing up
Anyone who has trouble managing/stabilizing in between therapy sessions
What you get:
Tools and skills you can use for managing your emotions
Education about how your emotions and your nervous system work
Increased self-awareness and understanding of your own patterns and confidence in your ability to manage them
In class practice/experiential learning
Learning in a supportive group setting
Handouts and homework for supporting your practice
What you give/bring:
One hour and fifteen minutes of your evening
$25 per session
Some paper and pen
Your motivation and desire to experience change in your life
Respect and support for other participants’ and your honest inquiry; no advice giving or criticism
